Apple's Vision Pro Headset: New Details Emerge on Secondary Head Strap and Accessories During Apple's WWDC event in June, the tech giant unveiled its highly anticipated Vision Pro headset. Members of the press who had the opportunity to try out the device discovered an optional secondary head strap that provides additional support. Surprisingly, Apple's marketing materials did not mention this accessory, although it was spotted in promotional videos for the mixed reality device.

The braided headband that wraps around the back of the head features a fit adjustment dial. However, some users may find the single headband uncomfortable or insufficiently secure, especially during extended usage sessions. This is where the secondary over-the-head strap proves beneficial.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple introduced the secondary head strap after testing revealed that individuals with smaller body sizes and heads faced difficulties wearing the headset for prolonged periods. However, Gurman reports that the design of the strap has yet to be finalized.
MacRumors videographer Dan Barbera, who had the chance to try the headset at Apple Park, highlighted the existence of the additional strap in his initial impressions video. According to Dan, the Vision Pro, with the additional strap attached, manages to distribute its weight effectively, making it comparable to other headsets. He expressed the belief that most users would prefer to use the secondary strap.
Although Apple has not disclosed the weight of the Vision Pro, its decision to have an external battery pack indicates the company's commitment to keeping the headset as light as possible. Recognizing that some customers may lack pockets capable of storing the battery pack, Apple is reportedly considering partnering with accessory makers to develop shoulder-worn pouches.
In addition to addressing comfort and weight distribution concerns, Apple is also exploring the possibility of selling accessories to protect the device. Scratching on the front of the headset has been identified as a potential issue. To mitigate this, Apple may collaborate with third-party manufacturers to create screen protectors. Furthermore, Apple has incorporated alerts to discourage users from wearing the device while walking at certain speeds to reduce the risk of accidental collisions and potential damage.
According to Gurman, Apple intends to launch the Vision Pro headset in the U.K. and Canada by the end of 2024. The company is already making significant progress in preparing for the complex retail launch of the device in the United States, expected to take place early next year.
